'Yeomen' poster
An original poster for THE YEOMEN OF THE GUARD by Gilbert and Sullivan,
depicting The Executioner silhouetted against the setting sun. This colourful D'Oyly Carte Opera Company poster probably dates from the 1920's; the quality of the print suggests a hand silk-screened artwork. The image was designed by Dudley Hardy in 1897, and bears his printed signature; appearing in small print on the lower left corner of the white border, the legend credits the printer "David Allen & Sons LD 17 Leicester St London and W. Belfast. ETC 20.3 Y.G.".
[20" x 30", on well-preserved heavy white paper stock; the scan does not do justice to the vivid colours (ebony, scarlet, and intense chrome yellow); a few very minor marks and printing flaws, otherwise in excellent condition] £90
